This December sees the 5th year of Miss Ivy events, with a special anniversary celebration being held at The Imperial Hotel, Torquay on 4th December. The venue has a special place in our hearts as it was the birthplace of the wonderful journey that we have taken over the past 5 years.
Back in 2011, we had no idea how big Miss Ivy Events would grow and how quickly it would do so. With the support of our fantastic exhibitors and an ever growing loyal customer following, we have been able to expand and develop beyond our wildest dreams, and be privileged enough to host events in amazing venues like Cotehele and Dartington Hall.
The vintage aspect of our events has always been popular and we love organising these shows, however, we also know there are various other types of events that are popular, which many of our exhibitors can cross over to with their range of quality goods and services.
With this in mind, back in 2014, we began running Sell Off events, which rapidly became popular and have become a permanent fixture on our yearly calendar. In 2015, we also expanded our event repertoire by creating the ‘Out of the Box Wedding Shows’, as we saw that the traditional style wedding fairs were not meeting a large gap in the market. These have been popular and we’ve been asked to work with well established organisations like Plymouth Pavilions in the 2017 to expand their traditional wedding fair and provide a quirky, Out of the Box section for them.
Earlier this year, Jo Macaskie, Miss Ivy’s founder and Director, took on a new, very special journey when she adopted Max, a rescued Lurcher puppy from Gables Farm. At the time she had no idea how this one act would soon inspire a whole new, exciting direction for Jo and the Miss Ivy team with the birth of our new Pet Festivals. November 2016 saw the first ever Festive Pet Fair at Tavistock, which was a whopping success.
2017, Miss Ivy’s 6th year, will see these new shows expand and develop with the Devon PetFest in Ivybridge, another Easter inspired Pet Fair in Tavistock, as well as more Pet Fairs in the pipeline, alongside additional events in new locations such as Kitley House and Mount Edgcumbe.
Joanne Macaskie had this to say about her unique journey with Miss Ivy Events, “It’s been a challenging yet very rewarding 5 years. Events is an unpredictable industry, which requires many skills and attributes that you constantly have to learn and adapt along the way. However, I have a burning passion to grow and create events that provide people with memorable experiences and enable local businesses to showcase their products and services. I began the journey with the initial intention of promoting my vintage shop in Torquay, and the first event was only meant to be part of my overall marketing strategy, but it quickly turned into a thriving small business that has taken on a life and path of it’s own. I’d like to thank all the exhibitors and traders that have supported us over the past 5 years, as well as the venues, and of course our customers for helping us create amazing days out for everyone to enjoy. I’m looking forward to what the future holds for the business, and hope we continue to be able to bring you events that you love and follow throughout the south-west.”
