I have always lived close to the coast and as a result it has had a strong influence in my work. Currently this is resulting in two harmonious collections – elegant and functional everyday ware made from porcelain.

These have coastlines hand drawn into thrown forms that are then enhanced by inlaying coloured porcelain into them.

The second collection has a more abstract feel to the influence; waves of porcelain are layered to make up pictures and coastal bowls.

With these I am exploring and encouraging some of the natural properties and reactions of the porcelain, looking to the material to be itself and being more led by it. The resulting works are unique and due to these processes, no two are the same.
