My wife and I are both artists/craftspeople.

Having started life trained and working as a Marine Zoologist, I eventually changed direction and went to Art College.  I have been working in ceramics for many years – and am a Fellow of the national body – the Craft Potters Association of Great Britain.

I work both in stoneware clay, making a range of kitchen wares for domestic use (eg casseroles, oven dishes, teapots, etc) – and also in fine porcelain for my Individual work.

These one-off pieces in porcelain are mainly influenced by the sea and coastline near to my home. I usually throw the work on the wheel and sometimes alter the forms by spiralling or ovalising etc. I usually then apply glazes brushed onto the forms in such a manner that the layers interact in the long high-temperature firing and suggest a sense of movement and depth in the surface. A hint of gold lustre suggests a hint of sunlight on the surface.

My wife Ros is an art school-trained textile designer and painter and after many years teaching as well as making, her current work is in the design and making of beautiful earrings, either in porcelain or using semiprecious stones, which are often ‘upcycled’ from other situations.
