Miss Ivy Events the leading event management organiser of vintage artisan lifestyle wedding and pet events across the South West The Crafty Black Dog

The Crafty Black Dog was born out of my own battle with the black dog.  You may or may not know what this is. If you do not, let me explain. The term ‘black dog’ is most commonly used to describe a state of depression, and was something I had unknowingly been battling for over 20 years.  It wasn’t until I became a mother and couldn’t do the things I used to do to escape, such as travelling, that things began to unravel and I had to ask for help.  Making that admission was one of the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.

I fist became interested in arts and crafts in 2019 whilst at a place called Combat Stress in Surrey. This is where Military Veterans like myself can go and get help for Mental Health matters. Whilst there I discovered Art Therapy (I hated art at school!) and a love for making things in the OT room. I started by making Remembrance Day related crafts and then quickly moved on to Military Insignia. I started with simple illuminated bottles, and now have a store full of magical gifts as well as a house that is never tidy!

During the first lockdown I took the plunge and started to sell my bottles online. I also applied for a licence from the Ministry of Defence to enable me to use the Military Insignia.  This was granted, and I could not have been happier.  Since leaving the Military I have struggled significantly to hold down a job because of my issues, but now The Crafty Black Dog has become so successful its my full-time job, and I get to work from home and at my own pace.

The ‘black dog’ has stolen the mass of confidence I used to have, so I am hoping this adventure will help me to connect with people again and inspire those of you out there who are having your own battle.

Its one that may never be won, but it certainly can be helped.

I hope you like my designs and enjoy browsing my shop.
